Sitges
- What to visit-
Located just 30 minutes south of Barcelona, Sitges has been described as the Saint-Tropez of Spain thanks to its glitzy beach crowd and lively nightlife. Renowned for its LGBT-friendly atmosphere as well as its world-famous horror film festival, Sitges has plenty to offer visitors.
This is our recommendation of places to visit, but there are many more!
The Museu Cau Ferrat
Today a museum, the Cau Ferrat building was once the home of Catalan artist Santiago Rusiñol, one of the leading figures of the Catalan Modernist movement. Upon his death, the artist bequeathed the house and its contents – including drawings, paintings, ceramics and more – to the town of Sitges on condition that it be opened to the public as a museum.

Parroquia de Sant Bartomeu & Santa Tecla

Seeing the famous sculpture of the Mermaid and climbing the fantastic stairs of La Punta to reach the Parroquia de Sant Bartomeu i Santa Tecla, is without a doubt one of the best things to do in Sitges. This is where the ceremony is held :)
This baroque church from the 17th century, located on a small hill with views of the Paseo Marítimo and the Mediterranean, is one of the icons and postcards of Sitges in which its façade stands out with its two bell towers, while inside it has several altarpieces of Renaissance and Baroque style, as well as two Gothic tombs and an organ.
When leaving the church, don't forget to stop in front of the Baluard Canyon, a replica of one of the 6 cannons that defended Sitges at the end of the 18th century and which is another of the most important points in this area of the city.
Palau Maricel
The Palau Maricel, built between 1913 and 1916 on some old fishermen's houses and a hospital, located on both sides of Fonollar street, is another of the most beautiful places to see in Sitges.
In the novocentista style and with architectural elements from different parts of Spain, this work was financed by the American millionaire Charles Deering to convert the fishermen's houses into an art museum and the hospital into his private residence.
